IVN Richtlinien in Kurzform
Raw Hides
 
Animals are primarily kept for the production of meat. The slaughter place shall be documented.
Wild, endangered races of animals shall be expressly excluded.
 
Conservation of Hides
 
Drying of hides and all chemical conservation agents shall be excluded, as far as this is possible.
Conservation methods permitted are cooling and salting.
 
Preparatory Treatment
 
Surface-active agents and washing active substances must be biologically decomposable
 
Tanning
 
Chrome tanning shall be excluded. This also applies to tanning with tanning agents having a high content of formaldehyde.
Non-mineral and vegetable tanning procedures shall be permitted.
A wet white pre-tanning with glutaric aldehyde shall be permitted.
An oil tanning shall be permitted. Evidence to be provided that of protection of species during collection of fish oil is observed. In the same way aluminium, zirconium and titan tanning shall be permitted.
 
Dyeing
 
Dyes must be free from AOX and heavy metals in accordance with ETAD, except for copper and iron complex dyes.
Dyes shall conform to the EU-directive (Directive 2002/61/EG dtd. 19. July. 2002). In addition, further aromatic amines must not be eliminated.
Halogenated organic solvents and short-warp chlor alkanes shall be excluded.
 
Fattening
 
Fattening with halogenated organic solvents and short-warp chlor alkanes shall not be permitted. As to fattening agents an exhaustion as high as possible shall be aimed at.
 
Finishing
 
In addition to optics finishing methods improve the wear behaviour of leather and support the breathing activity.
Mechanical procedures e.g. milling, staking, friction finishing etc. are desirable.
Waxing and pigmented waxing is permissible if the products used comply with standards in force. A slight finishing on the basis of PU and acrylates shall be permitted.
Coatings, casein finishings and nitrocellulose finishings shall be expressly excluded.
 
Limiting Values and Fastness Requirements
 
In accordance with DIN and ISO Standards

Particularly high requirements are made to the freedom from residues and
to human compatibility in the finished product.

 
Storage and Transport
 
Storage area and storage room not contaminated by biocides.
Use of biocides only in accordance with EG-BioVO 2092/91
